1st Annual International Conference
Engaging Boys and Men in Education
7th and 8th June 2011
Workshops 9th June 2011

This conference is designed to raise awareness of some of the issues that face
men and boys in a variety of care and educational environments both indoors
and outdoors. It will investigate the research linked to boy’s attainment and
will celebrate a range of approaches effective in raising emotional wellbeing
and involvement of boys.

Led by Claire Warden and invited speakers:-
Anders Farstad, Manager in result unit Hval Gård and Vepsebolet nurseries and consultant;
Troels Romby Larsen Senior lecturer, University College Lillebaelt, Denmark;
Professor Leif Christensen, Outdoor Education for Pre-School children
Department of Social Education, Denmark;
Christopher Campion, Deputy Head from Cruckton Hall School, Shropshire;
Kenny Spence, Project Manager for Men in Childcare.

“Creating a sense of place for boys”
Keynote Speaker; Anders Farstad, introduced by Kenny Spence
Manager in result unit Hval Gård and Vepsebolet nurseries and consultant
“Realising and developing the potential of boys and Kinestic learners”
Afternoon Session from 1.15 to 3.00pm
Interactive sessions lead by Associated Professor Leif Christensen, Outdoor Education for Pre-School children Department of Social Education from the University College Lillebaelt, Denmark.
“Children as engineers”
Followed by a selection of linked workshops incorporating wood working, willow
and rope work.
3.30 pm: Reflection of the day
From 3.30pm: Networking opportunity with Keynote speakers, colleagues and friends.

Optional: At 4pm a site visit to Auchlone Nature Kindergarten, Forest School Site
and Kinder kitchen can be organised. Transportation will be arranged if necessary.

Followed by a poster session /workshops that will share good practice from across
the world. (please contact Sabine to apply to display your case studies)

3pm to 3.30pm; Conference Close and acknowledgements by Claire Warden

Thursday 9th June 2011 (Optional)
Practical workshops to include plant dyeing, cooking outside, ember bowls and Raku pottery at our own Training Centre of Excellence in Fowlis Wester, Perthshire

Study Visit; This event is followed by a study visit hosted by Claire Warden and Bonnie Maggio visiting Scottish schools and projects working with children from 0-18 years.
